Quality Assurance and Control Engineer - Zijin Golden Ridge Limited


The role shall ensure that all Non-Processing Infrastructure construction projects and facilities maintenance comply with approved materials, workmanship, and project processes meet strict quality standards, safety codes, design drawings, engineering standards, contractual and design specifications.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Develop a quality assurance plan for all activities to assure quality in all aspects of the work and implement all quality procedures of all materials testing from Conceptual stage through execution to handover of projects.

• Verify that all required quality procedures and systems are executed and sustained throughout the duration of the project. Check incoming materials (cement, steel, aggregates, bricks) via Material Approval Requests (MAR) and Material Inspection Requests (MIR).

• Conduct routine checks on lines, levels, reinforcement spacing, formwork, and concrete pouring using standardized checklists.

• Supervise field and laboratory tests, such as concrete design, concrete slump tests, soil compaction tests, and concrete cube compressive strength tests.

• Manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), raise Request for Information (RFI) documents, maintain clear quality records and prepare weekly inspection report and submit them to Lead Engineer for the project and prepare Turnover packages for end-users.

• Monitor the job site in accordance with the plan and specifications of the project to ensure that quality standards are met to avoid non-conformities.

• Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) where work fails to meet standards and verify Corrective Action Requests (CAR).

• Ensure the preparation and control of project quality system management documentation prior to project commencement.

• Supervise construction activities on site to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements and construction is as per design.

• Coordinate Mechanical completion and safe commissioning of projects.

• Work closely with Engineers and Project Supervisors to prepare redline and as-built drawings.

• Conduct testing, inspecting, and verifying that new equipment, materials, systems, and industrial plants are installed correctly and operate safely and efficiently before initiating Commissioning and handover.

• Provide information and guidance to complete the building within specified project timelines and budget.

• Track materials inventory and delivery inspection of materials.

• Conduct kicks off meetings, plan for site meetings and facilitate issuing of site instructions.

• Confirm the schedules for the timeous completion of construction projects.

• Oversee that all work carried out adheres to Health and Safety standard operating procedures.

• Work with the team to conduct safety audits, risk assessments and housekeeping inspections to ensure regulatory, corporate, site and environmental standards are being followed.


Work Environment

This position is based at the Akyem mine site.

Training and Experience

Formal Qualification (including professional Registrations)

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Materials Engineering, or another relevant engineering field.

• Must be a member of a recognized Engineering or Construction Professional body.

• Ghanaian driving license C.

• Mincom certification.

Additional Knowledge

• Knowledge of Construction materials Standards and technical specifications.

• Must have experience in working on foundation, concrete, office and accommodation building, road, steel and portal framing construction in the mining industry.

• Knowledge of the National and international Codes, standards as well as regulations on Building & road Construction including Ghana building, highway and bridge construction and quality systems like ISO 9001.

Industry Experience

• Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience in a mining or construction environment as a Materials Engineer or QA/QC Engineer with at least 1 year of experience in the construction industry.

• Proven experience managing Project Execution environment.

Technical Skills & Experience

• Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, interacting with diverse functional and cultural backgrounds

• Proficiency in managing documents.

• Strong analysis and ability to make informed decisions and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong planning and organizing skills.

• Strong cost control skills.

• Sound computer literacy skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
