The HSE Officer will be responsible for implementing, monitoring and improving the Company’s health, safety and environmental systems across its hard-rock and alluvial mining operations. The role will ensure compliance with applicable Ghanaian mining, occupational health, environmental and safety requirements and promote a strong safety culture across mine sites, processing areas, workshops, camps and other operational facilities.

Core Duties

1. Implement and monitor the Company’s HSE policies, procedures, standards and programmes.

12. Monitor environmental controls relating to water quality, dust, noise, waste management, land disturbance, erosion and rehabilitation.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Mining Engineering, Geology or a related discipline.
2. Professional qualification or recognised certification in Health and Safety, Environmental Management or a related field will be an advantage.
3. Minimum 3-5 years’ relevant experience, preferably within a mining or other heavy industrial environment.
4. Experience in large-scale mining, particularly open-pit, hard-rock and/or alluvial operations, will be an advantage.
5. Good knowledge of Ghana’s mining, occupational health, environmental and workplace safety requirements.

5. Conduct planned and unplanned site inspections, observations and leadership engagements; identify hazards, unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviours and ensure immediate controls and formal corrective actions are assigned and tracked.
6. Coordinate contractor H&S personnel, clarify coverage and priorities, review inspection quality and action close-out, and coach teams to apply consistent project standards without replacing contractor line-management accountability.
7. Facilitate or support incident notifications, scene control, evidence collection, investigations and root-cause analysis; prepare clear reports and track corrective and preventive actions to verified completion.
8. Monitor permit-to-work, pre-start, toolbox-talk, Take 5 or equivalent field-level risk assessment and change-management processes for quality and effectiveness, not merely document completion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead the HSE function across all departments to maintain a safe and environmentally responsible workplace
2. Develop, implement, and monitor robust HSE systems and procedures aligned with ISO standards and global best practices
3. Ensure compliance with the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations and other relevant statutory requirements
4. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to proactively identify and mitigate hazards
5. Champion HSE training and awareness initiatives to build a culture of safety and accountability
6. Liaise with regulatory authorities and ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents, investigations, and compliance actions

Qualifications and Experience

1. A recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
2. A valid HSE Manager's Certificate of Competency issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana
3. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in health, safety, and environmentalmanagement, preferably within the mining industry
4. Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other applicable HSE standards
5. Proven leadership capabilities with the ability to influence safety culture and performance at all levels
