Health and Safety Coordinator - Zijin Golden Ridge Limited

Role Focus

To support the HSE Superintendent-Projects in implementing and assuring effective health and safety management in the Akyem Plant Expansion Project. The role coordinates project H&S coverage, contractor assurance, high-risk work controls, inspections, incident investigations, training, emergency preparedness, corrective-action close-out and performance reporting. To provide senior field leadership and technical guidance while reinforcing that construction line management and contractors remain accountable for safe execution of their work.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Support the HSE Superintendent-Projects in implementing the project health and safety management system, construction safety plans, standards, procedures, legal requirements and site rules across all project work areas.
  2. Coordinate daily health and safety coverage, inspections and field engagement across civil, SMPP, EIC, TSF, logistics, lifting, temporary facilities and commissioning-preparation activities, based on changing work fronts and risk exposure.
  3. Review contractor H&S plans, risk registers, method statements, JHAs/JSAs, permits, lifting plans, emergency arrangements and mobilisation documentation for compliance and practical adequacy before work starts.
  4. Verify implementation of critical controls for high-risk activities, including isolations and LOTO, electrical work, lifting, work at height, scaffolding, excavation, confined space, hot work, mobile equipment, pressure testing, stored energy and simultaneous operations.
  5. Conduct planned and unplanned site inspections, observations and leadership engagements; identify hazards, unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviours and ensure immediate controls and formal corrective actions are assigned and tracked.
  6. Coordinate contractor H&S personnel, clarify coverage and priorities, review inspection quality and action close-out, and coach teams to apply consistent project standards without replacing contractor line-management accountability.
  7. Facilitate or support incident notifications, scene control, evidence collection, investigations and root-cause analysis; prepare clear reports and track corrective and preventive actions to verified completion.
  8. Monitor permit-to-work, pre-start, toolbox-talk, Take 5 or equivalent field-level risk assessment and change-management processes for quality and effectiveness, not merely document completion.
  9. Coordinate project inductions, high-risk activity training, supervisor coaching, safety campaigns, lessons learned and targeted refreshers; maintain training and competency records and address identified gaps.
  10. Support emergency preparedness, including emergency-response plans, communications, rescue arrangements, drills, first-aid coverage, fire controls and interface with mine-site emergency resources.
  11. Review contractor H&S performance, leading and lagging indicators, hazard reports, inspection findings, action ageing, training compliance and critical-control verification; identify trends and recommend targeted interventions.
  12. Participate in construction planning, look-ahead and coordination meetings to identify upcoming H&S risks, simultaneous operations, resource needs, access restrictions and required control reviews before work fronts are released.
  13. Coordinate occupational health controls relevant to construction, including heat stress, fatigue, noise, dust, vibration, manual handling, chemical exposure, hygiene and welfare, with occupational-health specialists where required.
  14. Maintain accurate and auditable H&S records, registers and reports, including inspections, observations, incidents, actions, permits, training, competencies, critical-control verifications and contractor performance information.
  15. Provide accurate daily, weekly and monthly H&S reports and promptly escalate significant risks, serious incidents, repeated non-compliance, overdue critical actions and resource gaps to the HSE Superintendent.
  16. Promote a proactive and respectful safety culture in which leaders and workers understand their responsibilities, intervene in unsafe work and participate in practical improvement of construction controls.
