Job Summary
The Site Resident Engineer will provide on-site technical oversight and engineering supervision for mine development, civil works, infrastructure and related construction activities. The role will ensure that works are executed safely, efficiently, to approved designs and specifications, within agreed schedules and in compliance with applicable Ghanaian mining, engineering and environmental requirements.
Core Duties
- Provide day-to-day engineering supervision of mine development and infrastructure works.
- Supervise the construction and development of haul roads, access roads, drainage systems, platforms, stockpile areas, workshops, processing facilities, water infrastructure and other mine-site facilities.
- Review engineering drawings, designs, specifications, method statements and work schedules.
- Ensure contractors execute works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and contractual requirements.
- Monitor the quality, progress and workmanship of construction and engineering activities.
- Coordinate with Mining, Geology, Survey, Processing, HSE and other technical teams.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify technical, safety, quality and construction issues.
- Review contractors’ work programmes and monitor progress against approved schedules.
- Verify quantities and completed works for measurement, certification and payment purposes.
- Identify construction defects, deviations and engineering risks and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Supervise earthworks, excavation, drainage, concrete works, structural works and other civil engineering activities.
- Provide technical support for the development of both hard-rock and alluvial mining areas and associated infrastructure.
- Monitor the use and suitability of construction materials and ensure required quality standards are maintained.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspection reports, progress reports and engineering documentation.
- Participate in project meetings and provide management with regular updates on progress, risks, costs and technical issues.
- Support commissioning, testing, inspection and handover of completed infrastructure and facilities.
- Ensure all site activities comply with approved HSE requirements and environmental controls.
- Assist in resolving technical disputes and coordinate corrective works where necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Professional registration or membership with a recognised engineering institution will be an advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant engineering experience, preferably in mining, civil construction or major infrastructure projects.
- Previous experience in a mining environment or large-scale mining project is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrable experience in site supervision, contractor management and construction quality control.
- Good knowledge of earthworks, roads, drainage, concrete works and mine-site infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and survey information.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D or other relevant engineering/design software will be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety and environmental requirements.
- Good project coordination, reporting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work and reside at a remote mine site and operate effectively under field conditions.
